by nzfc.co.nz Waitakere pushed their way into second place with a crucial 1-0 win over title hopefuls YoungHeart Manawatu in Palmerston North on Sunday. YoungHeart were bursting with confidence after a 4-0 hammering of Team Wellington last week but Roy Krishna’s dazzling 48th minute run and low shot past Ross Nicholson saw the West Aucklanders leapfrog YoungHeart into second place. Nicholson showed signs that he may be recapturing some of best form with a series of sharp saves through out the match to keep the home side in the game, and it almost paid dividends when a missed clearance almost resulted in a late equalising own goal. The win keeps Waitakere in touch with rivals Auckland City who are just one point ahead having played one more game. The two clash next week at Kiwitea Street in Neil Emblen’s biggest acid test as Waitakere player/manager yet. |
